Lock Stock Trade or LST is the flagship entrepreneurial event of SPJIMR where budding start-ups meet Venture Capitalists(VC’s) and Industry Experts.
LST 2018 kicked off on the morning of 13th January 2018 with Key Note Speaker, Mr. Varun Sheth, co-founder of Ketto, India’s No.1 crowdfunding Platform and recently made it to the list of Forbes 30 under 30 leaders of India, 2017. Mr. Sheth addressed the audience and shared his thoughts about entrepreneurship and the start-up ecosystem. Saket Agrawal, Managing Partner at Onnivation, graced the event to give valuable insights to the budding start-ups. Onnivation helps Israeli technology companies to scale in India. Rimjhim Ray, a proud SPJIMR Alum, and a serial entrepreneur, gave motivation to the students in crowd to pursue their ideas. She is on her way to pick Series A funding for her venture: Frapperz.
The event proved an interesting affair for many investors who joined as panellists also. Some of the name are: Sharad Dalmia of Mumbai Angels Network, Bikram Mahajan of SBI Capital, Amit Mehra of Unicorn India Ventures, Ashish Gangrade of Tata Industries, Apurva Damani of Artha Ventures
The pitching start-ups were divided into four tracks, namely Indy-genius, Budding, Flourish and Fintech. The first track comprised of start-ups striving to make a difference in upliftment of the nation, the second track consisted of only student ideas which needed mentorship & guidance to scale their product/service. High participation from PGDM, SYB and GYB programs of SPJIMR, the third track consisted of start-ups from diverse sectors like Education, food, Health, Automobile and more wanting to go BIG. The fourth track, sponsored by HDFC bank consisted of Fintechs from across India. LST 2018 went international with the participation of a Spanish start-up Sentimer. FASAL from the Indy-genius, Purpule and Anytimeloan from the Fintech, Dr. Store from the Flourishing and Ospitalita from the budding track proved to be the winners after a day of pitches, discussions and presentations. Cash prizes worth 2.25 Lacs were awarded during the closing ceremony of the event.
A unique live Mock IPO Event was also organized which saw immense participation of students from SPJIMR, Jai Hind College and St. Francis College. They invested virtual money in the companies post their 90 second pitch and 8-minute presentation. The students interacted with entrepreneurs to get to know their ideas better. Top 3 students from the Mock IPO competition and Routine Protein was also rewarded for company with the highest Market-Cap.
The LST team was delighted to partner with HDFC Bank for the FinTech Track and also with Google Cloud, who will be extending their services to all eligible participating start-ups. The success of the event was celebrated as the aim to bring start-ups and investors closer was accomplished by end of the day. 21 out of the 36 participating start-ups have already been approached by Investors and other panellists for further discussion for rounds of investment. The event was appreciated by all stakeholders for flawless execution. The organising team, Projects Committee 2017-18 has certainly raised the bar even higher for this prestigious and unique event.
